"Live At The El Mocambo" - a legendary event in the Rolling Stones' incredible 60-year history. The Stones performed under fake names in 1977 and surprised the fans. The recording will be released on May 13, 2022.
The album marks the first official release of the band's two famous secret concerts at Toronto's El Mocambo club in March 1977. "Live At The El Mocambo" features the Stones' complete March 5 set plus three bonus tracks from March 4, remixed by Bob Clearmountain.
The Stones surprised audiences in 1977 with two live shows at the El Mocambo club in Toronto, Canada. At the time, they performed for an audience of just 300 people*. The Stones' fans became aware of the show after local radio station CHUM FM held a contest. Through a contest, participants could win tickets to two performances by popular Canadian rock band April Wine, who in turn announced newcomers The Cockroaches as support. The Cockroaches, of course, were the Rolling Stones.
"The plan we came up with," says Duff Roman, the organizer of the sweepstakes at the time, "was to have a contest. We asked: 'What would you do to see the Rolling Stones play live?' That way, we could select the top 300 entries and guarantee that real fans would be at the event. The prize was the chance to see April Wine at El Mocambo."
