Info for 1989 (Taylor's Version)

Taylor Swift releases the re-recording of her beloved 2014 album 1989. The new version of her fifth studio album (out via Republic Records) sees re-recordings of the deluxe edition of 1989’s 16 original tracks, plus the five “From the Vault” songs “Slut!,” “Say Don’t Go,” “Now That We Don’t Talk,” “Suburban Legends” and “Is It Over Now?”

"I was born in 1989, reinvented for the first time in 2014, and a part of me was reclaimed in 2023 with the re-release of this album I love so dearly. Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine the magic would you sprinkle on my life for so long," Swift wrote.

"This moment is a reflection of the woods we've wandered through and all this love between us still glowing in the darkest dark. I present to you, with gratitude and wild wonder, my version of 1989. It's been waiting for you. Taylor"

Why is Taylor Swift re-releasing her first six albums? In 2018, Swift discovered her music catalog had been sold to music executive Scooter Braun and made public she was not consulted about the sale. When the new owners refused to grant her ownership of her music, she decided to rerecord each of the six albums that were originally under that label.

The original 1989 remains one of Swift’s most popular and beloved albums to date, and included hits like “Bad Blood,” “Shake It Off,” and “Blank Space.” Last month, Swift shared Speak Now (Taylor’s Version), which featured new collaborations from Paramore’s Hayley Williams and Fall Out Boy. In 2021, she shared Red (Taylor’s Version). Now, with the upcoming release of 1989 (Taylor’s Version), the only records remaining before she can reclaim her catalog are her self-titled debut and 2017’s reputation.
