Info for Moeders
In Moeders (Mothers) Herman van Veen goes back to the Kievitdwarsstraat in Utrecht where he was born. He writes about his mother and her mother, but also about how his daughter became a mother and about his first violin teacher, with whom he gained another mother. About where you come from, how that shapes you and how you stay connected to it.
Saw craters breaking. Oceans colliding. Geysers exploding. Lightning strike. But it's nothing compared to the thrusting violence of childbirth. The moment a woman becomes a mother. No finale of no symphony, no explosion after a goal can match that. The moment a woman becomes a mother. My daughter asked me the other day, "Daddy, have you ever experienced a miracle? A real miracle." "Yes, honey." "Then what?" "Your mother."
Herman van Veen (1945) was born and raised in Utrecht, where he also attended the conservatory. In 1965 he made his theater debut with the solo program Harlekijn. Since then he has traveled around the world with his programs. He has been decorated numerous times for both his artistic work and his dedication to projects for peace, freedom and solidarity.
