Paolo Biordi & Francesco Tomei
Biography Paolo Biordi & Francesco Tomei
Francesco Tomei
has started his musical experiences beyond the borders of the traditional academic frame, playing electro-acoustic instruments such as guitar, bass guitar and Chapman Stick-guitar.
He attended later classical tuition, at a relatively mature age, keeping meanwhile to follow different art-rock paths, in several productions during his curricular studies.
In 1996 he achieved in Adria a conservatory diploma as Double-bass player, after studies with U. Fioravanti; he has gone on taking part in a postgraduate programme held by A. Bocini at the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole.
As Double Bass Player, Francesco collaborated with many chamber and orchestral groups: Orchestra Symphonica Toscanini, Orchestra di Padova e del Veneto, I Pomeriggi Musicali, Erl Tiroler Festspiele (Austria), Camerata Strumentale Città di Prato, Orchestra Promusica di Pistoia, Ensemble Nuovo Contrappunto, Orchestra della Toscana.
Since 2002 he complemented a professional activity as Contrabass player with an academic training in the Viola da gamba and Violone, which has taken him to pursue a parallel career with many early-music ensembles. He gained a Gamba degree in 2009, having enjoyed the tuition of Paolo Biordi.
Francesco fosters since then a personal interest in historically informed performances, on original instruments, having played with groups like Le Musiche Nove (with Cecilia Bartoli, Simone Kermes, Jochen Kowalsky), Ausermusici, Academia de Li Musici e Athestis Chorus. He has recorded for Sony Classical, Deutsche Harmonia Mundi, Hyperion, Amadeus, Symphonia, Brilliant, CPO, Tactus, Arts.
He teaches Viola da gamba at Accademia Musicale di Firenze.
He plays in duo with the celllist Viola Mattioni Bassorilievi à Viola da gamba overo Violoncello, in duo with lute player Giovanni Bellini and in solo recital Bassorilievi a 7 corde.
