Info for Richard Strauss
The violinist Renaud Capuçon, together with an impressive array of contributors, presents a compendium of works by Richard Strauss, a composer who played a central role in his artistic output even in his youth. In addition to rather neglected, recently recorded gems (the Violin Concerto, the Sonata, the Piano Quartet and the Daphne Etude), this release also includes great concertos from the past. String ensemble arrangements of ‘Metamorphosen’ and ‘Cappriccio’ with highly decorated colleagues are followed by a dazzling performance of ‘Ein Heldenleben’ from 2000 with Seiji Ozawa and the Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester. Renaud, who was only in his early twenties at the time, plays the notoriously demanding concertmaster part himself.
