Biography Chor der Musikalischen Komödie Leipzig, Orchester der Musikalischen Komödie Leipzig & Stefan Klingele
The Orchestra of the Musical Comedy, Leipzig
Founded in 1902 and appointed municipal orchestra in 1912, is one of the world's few specialist ensembles in the genres of operetta, play opera and musical. Even Franz Lehár, Nico Dostal, Paul Lincke or Johannes Heesters appreciated the musical quality of the orchestra. Since 1967, Roland Seiffarth, from 1978 - 2007 as Musical Director and Chief Conductor, has shaped the style of this unique orchestra. From 2007 - 2015 Stefan Diederich was principal conductor of the Musikalische Komödie.
With Stefan Klingele, engaged as principal conductor since the 2015/16 season, the orchestra today has a conductor who focuses on targeted work with the orchestra far beyond its actual domain. Guest appearances have taken the orchestra to the Philharmonies of Cologne and Essen, to the Open Air at Berlin's Gendarmenmarkt, to the Dortmund Konzerthaus, to the Graf-Zeppelin-Haus in Friedrichshafen, to the Winterthur Theatre (ch), to the Coesfeld Concert Theatre and to Aschaffenburg. After three joint concerts at the opera house, the orchestra toured Germany with the "Prinzen" in 2018 and 2019. A number of operetta excavations have been documented on cd on the Rondeau label, including "Princess Nefertiti" by Nico Dostal and "Das Lied der Liebe" by Erich Wolfgang Korngold.
