Swetlana Meermann-Muret
as born into a family of musicians in Lipetsk, Russia. There she studied at the Special School of Art for gifted children, won First Prize at the first Konstantin Igumnov Piano Competition and was awarded a scholarship from her city and from the Russian government. She went on to win numerous awards and prizes at national and international competitions as a soloist, chamber musician, and accompanist.
At the age of 16, she gave her concert debut performing Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1 and has appeared as soloist, among others, with the Staatsorchester Rheinische Philharmonie and the Philharmonie Baden-Baden. She has followed the tracks of the Russian piano tradition throughout her education, also in Germany and in France. At the Regional Music Highschool in Montabaur, Germany she studied in the piano class of Natalia Adomeit.
Swetlana Meermann-Muret holds a master’s and pedagogical degree from the Music Conservatory in Frankfurt, where she studied under Irina Edelstein and subsequently earned an Artist Diploma as a Concert Pianist at the Music Conservatory in Karlsruhe with highest honors under Michael Uhde and Markus Stange. She perfected her playing in France under Géry Moutier and Brigitte Engerer at national music conservatories in Lyon and Paris (CNSMD) and has lived in France since 2011.
She has gained important musical impetus at numerous master classes given by, among others, Lilya Zilberstein, Naum Starkman, Rudolf Kehrer, Yevgeny Malinin, Martin Helmchen and as a scholarship holder at the Villa Musica-German chamber music foundation as well as with Menahem Pressler. A passionate chamber musician and highly versed accompanist, Swetlana MeermannMuret has founded various ensembles and initiated projects.
She enjoys including rarely played works and composers in her programs, as she did with the work of Rodion Shchedrin on her 2005 debut CD alongside famous pieces. In recent years she has immersed herself in Russian piano repertoire. Hailed as a versatile and charismatic pianist, her playing is defined by her profound and refined interpretations, which time and again deeply move her international audiences.
