Biography Alvaro Mendizabal
Alvaro Mendizabal
Global nomad, multi-lingual, and serial-career-changer Alvaro Mendizabal has the firm conviction that Art is an intrinsic element of the human condition, expressed in any field of knowledge. Unbound by any single medium of expression, he continuously explores the ways in which ideas turn into ‘art’ across multiple fronts: as a classical musician, artist manager, thought leader, and business strategy consultant.
A tireless promoter of the classical guitar, his tenure in the arts industry includes a brief stint at IMG Artists and transformative work as personal advisor to some of the foremost classical guitarists around the world. Throughout these experiences, he achieved career-making engagements for his artists with debuts in the likes of Carnegie Hall, Konzerthaus Wien and Munich’s Gasteig. Additionally, he collaborated in the production and ideation of several recordings for labels such as ARS, KSG Exaudio, Naxos, Harmonia Mundi, and Sony Classical.
Born in Peru, he started his music education at age six, becoming a founding member of Peru’s National Youth Choir and National Youth Symphony Orchestra. A multi-award winner in guitar competitions, he has performed with symphony orchestras in Latin America and the US working alongside conductors such as Echo Klassik (now Opus Klassik) winner George Hanson and Austrian conductor Emmanuel Siffert.
As a performing musician, Alvaro was mentored by some of the most sought-after masters of the classical guitar, such as Grammy winners Sergio Assad and David Russell, and Echo Klassik winner Prof. Joaquin Clerch. His most recent recitals have taken him to Germany, Vienna, and tours in Latin America and the United States in performances for the ICPNA Guitar Festival, the Peruvian/British Cultural Institute, and the Tucson Symphony Orchestra. The 2019/2020 season includes the recording of his debut album for the ARS Produktion Label in Germany.
As a business executive, Alvaro has worked with some of the largest internet and technology platforms since moving to Silicon Valley in 2016. He has worked hand-in-hand with C-Suite executives on business and talent strategy, published bespoke white papers on the Future of Data, and crafted impactful go-to-market strategies for early stage startups and large F1000 corporations alike, all while applying “artful”, human-centric design methodologies.
