Biography Sophie Junker, {oh!} Orkiestra, Martyna Pastuszka

Sophie Junker
Belgian-born soprano Sophie Junker celebrated her international breakthrough in 2010 when she won the London Handel Competition. Winning the ‘Cesti Competition’ at the Innsbruck Festival of Early Music supported her rapid rise, and she now regularly performs with top conductors, including Harry Bicket (Dorinda in ‘Orlando’), Laurence Cummings (Israelite Woman in Handel's ‘Esther’ and Sigismondo in Handel's ‘Arminio’ in Göttingen), Christian Curnyn (Italian Woman in Charpentier's ‘Médée’ for ENO, Phoebe in Rameau's ‘Castor et Pollux’) or Stefano Montanari (Zerlina in ‘Don Giovanni’). Described as irresistibly enchanting by Opera magazine, Sophie Junker already enjoys an established relationship with the Royal Opera Liège Wallonie (Wanda in ‘La Grande Duchesse de Gérolstein’, title role in Pauline Viardot's ‘Cendrillon’) and the Angers Nantes Opera (Amour in ‘Orphée et Eurydice’). In 2016, she celebrated her American opera debut with Cleis in Martini's ‘Sapho’ and Hélène in Chabrier's ‘Une Éducation Manquée’ (Opera Lafayette, New York and Washington). Other operatic roles include Caio in Vivaldi's ‘Ottone in Villa’ at the Copenhagen Opera Festival, Proserpine and Euridice in Charpentier's ‘La Déscente d'Orphée aux enfers’ (Wigmore Hall, The Hague), and Belinda (‘Dido and Aeneas’, Innsbruck Early Music Festival).
