Info for From the Library of Pisendel
Johann Georg Pisendel (1687–1755), one of the greatest violinists of the 18th century and renowned Konzertmeister of the Dresden court orchestra during the reign of the enlightened monarch Frederick Augustus II (1696-1763), is considered a pivotal figure between the Italian and German violin schools. Among the hundreds of compositions for various ensembles that Pisendel left behind, the sonatas for violin and basso continuo stand out in both quantity and quality. This collection is remarkable for its extraordinary stylistic diversity, reflecting his cosmopolitan and eclectic musical education. During my years of study at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis, having developed a deep fascination for Pisendel - his figure, his works, and his life - I gradually analysed, transcribed, and catalogued a significant portion of his valuable archive. From this collection Julio Caballero and I have selected some of the works that we found most interesting and representative, thus creating the programme contained on this album. (Claudio Rado)

Claudio Rado
was born in 1990 in Treviso, near Venice, and started studying violin at the age of five. In 2007 he graduated at the conservatory “A. Steffani” in Castelfranco Veneto in Giorgio Fava’s class and was awarded a scholarship named to the professor Davide Zambon.
He studied afterwards with Sonig Tchakerian at the “Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia” in Rome. He was invited to performe Ysaye's "Ballade" solo sonata during the concert of the Accademia’s best pupils. The concert was held at the “Parco della Musica” hall.
In summer 2010 he attended a master class led by Giuliano Carmignola at the “Accademia Chigiana di Siena”, obtaining a full scholarship and a special certificate of merit. Since 2012 he has played with the Russian pianist Eugenia Nalivkina. Price-Winner of many national competitions and scholarships, the Duo studied at the “Accademia Trio di Trieste” in Duino under the guidance of Trio di Parma.
Claudio has always expressed a particular interest in baroque music.
In 2016 he was selected as a member of the European Union Baroque Orchestra, where he performed also as first violin’s assistant and leader of the second violins. With them he toured in England, Germany, Luxembourg, Italy, Belgium, Croatia etc.
Since 2016 he has being exclusively focusing on ancient music played on period instruments. Quite active as soloist, first violin of ensembles and orchestras, his collaborators include Roy Goodman, Lars Ulrik Mortensen, Alfredo Bernardini, Andrea Marcon, I Sonatori de la Gioiosa Marca, Stefano Montanari, Venice Baroque Orchestra, “La Cetra” Barockorchester, Il Pomo d’Oro etc. With them he has performed in some of most important music halls in Europe and America.
In June 2019 Claudio earned a Master’s degree cum laude at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis with Leila Schayegh.
Julio Caballero
is a dedicated and curious musician, recognised among the most interesting harpsichordists of his generation. From a young age, he developed a deep interest in the inner workings of music and began studying harmony and composition at the age of 12. Over time, he was drawn to early music for its interpretative freedom and its natural connection with improvisation and composition, eventually deciding to specialise in this field. At 18, he moved to Switzerland to study with Dirk Börner and Michael Form at the Bern University of the Arts. He later continued his education at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis in Basel, where he studied primarily with Francesco Corti and also received guidance from Andrea Scherer, Jörg-Andreas Bötticher, and others. During his studies, he began performing with ensembles such as Les Musiciens du Louvre, Il Pomo d’Oro, B’Rock, Abchordis, and La Monnaie Symphony Orchestra. Around this time, he co-founded El Gran Teatro del Mundo, a creative workshop for experimentation and artistic development. Today, directing the group is his main focus, involving in-depth research into historical repertoire and its cultural context. While the ensemble specialises in French Baroque music, its programmes range from 17th-century German works to Classical-era repertoire. Since its founding in 2016, it has performed at prestigious venues and festivals across Europe. Their debut recording received a Diapason d’Or, and their second, La vida es sueño, was awarded the Choc prize by Classica magazine.
