Info for Legacy: the Creedence Clearwater Revival years (John's Version)
Fogerty celebrates the songs that shaped rock history—on his own terms. For the first time, he fully owns the rights to his music. This marks both celebration and reclamation. With newly recorded versions of his hits, Legacy: the Creedence Clearwater Revival years captures his raw energy with renewed fire. Backed by his family band and buoyed by a wave of fresh recognition, Fogerty remains both fierce and joyful. Legacy is not just a celebration of one of the greatest catalogs in rock & roll—it’s the sound of an American original claiming his place, once more, at center stage.
“For most of my life I did not own the songs I had written,” says Fogerty. “Getting them back changes everything. Legacy is my way of celebrating that – of playing these songs on my terms, with the people I love.”
The 20-track collection was produced by Fogerty and his son Shane, with executive production by his wife Julie. Both Shane and Tyler Fogerty perform throughout the album, along with Matt Chamberlain, Bob Malone, Bob Glaub and Rob Stone. It was mixed by Bob Clearmountain.
As the leader of Creedence Clearwater Revival, Fogerty helped shape the sound of American music, blending blues, country, pop, rockabilly, R&B, and swamp boogie into a genre-defying style that continues to resonate with fans around the world. One of the greatest songwriters of all time, he has received multiple awards and honors for his undeniable impact on the culture including induction in the Songwriters Hall of Fame, the BMI Icon Award, a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and a special honor for his song “Centerfield” making him the only musician ever honored by the Baseball Hall of Fame.
John Fogerty’s songwriting canon spans nearly six decades and includes foundational classics such as “Proud Mary,” “Fortunate Son,” “Born on the Bayou,” “Bad Moon Rising,” and “Have You Ever Seen the Rain.” Both “Fortunate Son” and “Bad Moon Rising” have both surpassed 1 Billion streams, while “Have You Ever Seen The Rain” continues to go viral on TikTok and has garnered over 2 Billion streams. Fogerty has sold over 100 million records worldwide, and CCR’s album Chronicle: The 20 Greatest Hits recently logged 751 weeks - or 14 years - on the Billboard 200, only the fifth album ever to reach that chart milestone.
His 1997 Blue Moon Swamp won the Grammy for Best Rock Album, and his solo work has been nominated for a total of 8 Grammys over the years. So Fogerty’s status as a legend has long been secure. What’s more remarkable, though, is how popular and influential his music remains after more than 50 years. Recently, Rolling Stone ran a story with the headline “The Biggest Band in America in 2024 is…Creedence Clearwater Revival.”

John Fogerty
A native of Berkeley, Calif., John Fogerty began his career as the lead singer/songwriter and guitarist for Creedence Clearwater Revival, with whom he released the No. 1 albums Green River (1969) and Cosmo's Factory (1970), the latter of which was inducted into the GRAMMY Hall Of Fame this year and features six tracks that peaked in the Top 5 on the Billboard Hot 100, including "Long As I Can See The Light" and "Run Through The Jungle." Among the hits Fogerty composed for CCR are "Bad Moon Rising," "Proud Mary," "Green River," "Down On The Corner," "Have You Ever Seen The Rain," "Travelin' Band," and "Fortunate Son." The group's final album before disbanding was 1972's Mardi Gras, which peaked at No. 12 on the Billboard 200.
In 1975 Fogerty released a self-titled solo album, which cracked the Billboard 200 and featured the Top 40 hit "Rockin' All Over The World." In 1985 Fogerty released Centerfield, which climbed to No. 1 and earned the singer/songwriter his first career GRAMMY nomination for Best Rock Vocal Performance — Male. (In 2010 Fogerty became the first musician to be honored during a Baseball Hall of Fame induction ceremony and performed the album's title track.) Fogerty earned his first GRAMMY in 1997 for Best Rock Album for Blue Moon Swamp, which peaked in the Top 40 on the Billboard 200. Fogerty subsequently released several albums to crack the Top 40, including Premonition (1998, No. 29), Deja Vu All Over Again (2004, No. 23), Revival (2007, No. 14), and The Blue Ridge Rangers Rides Again (2009, No. 24).
Released in May 2013, Wrote A Song For Everyone is a 14-track set that features Fogerty recording songs from his catalog with several guest artists, including fellow GRAMMY winners Bob Seger ("Who'll Stop The Rain"), Brad Paisley ("Hot Rod Heart"), Zac Brown Band ("Bad Moon Rising"), Foo Fighters ("Fortunate Son"), Keith Urban ("Almost Saturday Night"), and Miranda Lambert and Tom Morello ("Wrote A Song For Everyone"), among others. Following the album's release, in September 2013 the GRAMMY Museum launched the exhibit John Fogerty: Wrote A Song For Everyone, which was on display through January 2014 and featured artifacts such as Forgerty's personal scrapbook from his time with Creedence Clearwater Revival and his "Centerfield" baseball bat-shaped guitar.
