Sporty and sparkling: Jonathan Tetelman's debut album for Deutsche Grammophon, Arias, was enthusiastically received by critics upon its release last summer and earned the singer the Opus Klassik 2023 "Young Artist of the Year" award.

The Chilean-American tenor now wants to build on this success with a tribute to Puccini, whose death anniversary is in 2024. The Great Puccini presents excerpts from nine operas, including well-known arias like "Nessun dorma", "Che gelida manina" and "E lucevan le stelle", but also hidden gems from lesser-known operas like "Le villi" and "La rondine". The album was recorded in Prague earlier this year with the PKF - Prague Philharmonia conducted by Carlo Rizzi and features notable guest appearances by sopranos Vida Miknevičiūtė (Giorgetta in Il tabarro) and Federica Lombardi (Mimì in La bohème).

"Tetelmann makes each of these arias sound like a sinful dessert where, after too much, you feel you should have stopped earlier. But I mean that in an absolutely positive sense, like a book of exciting short stories or a packet of creamy cannoli where you just want to save some for next time. Jonathan Tetelman and his melting voice fit the chosen repertoire wonderfully and the specialist for the Italian opera repertoire of the 19th century Carlo Rizzi provides the necessary Italianitá on the podium of the PKF- Prague Philharmonia. By the way, we can be curious about what else is in store for us in the coming weeks and months on the subject of Puccini, because I don't think any singer of distinction will miss the 100th anniversary of Giacomo Puccini's death next year as an occasion for a new album.
