Info for Still In Love

Ten Fé return with their third album, ‘Still In Love’, marking a joyful new chapter in their ten year career. The band has evolved from the electro-pop of 2017’s breakout success ‘Hit The Light’, and the Americana of 2019’s ‘Future Perfect Present Tense’, to embrace a softer, more mature, rootsy sound on ‘Still in Love’.

The chemistry of a decade playing together is evident throughout the 11 songs on ‘Still in Love’. They capture the magic of seeing this band play live: relaxed, confident, showcasing the classic songwriting and musicianship Ten Fé are known for, with a new emphasis on honesty and pared-back arrangements.

The band developed the new sound of the new album with producer Luke Smith (Foals, Depeche Mode, Shygirl, among others) - the brief: to make an album that would sound like ‘a photograph’, with minimal overdubs and focussing on live recordings to capture a moment in time. With Smith, the band recorded the album live in five days at ICP Studios in Belgium. Such a tight timeframe meant there was less time for scrutiny. The aim was to capture a more authentic form of performance. Leo says: ‘We stopped asking, “Is this good?” and started thinking, ’Is this fun?’ Rob adds: ‘It was encouraging. It was a big step, but one we were willing to take together.’ However, it was not without its challenges: Lead singer and guitarist Ben describes this type of recording as ‘way out of my comfort zone. It was a leap of faith.’ Ten Fé have never been so intimate with the listener.

And it was worth it. The songs on Still In Love are reminiscent of Kurt Vile at his most relaxed, Donnie Hathaway when he's at his most soulful, and Big Thief when they're at their most authentic. Drawing ideas from the honesty of the traditional music they encountered in Ireland (Caroleen, Space Invader) to the groove music of the London jam session scene that Ben and Tom live off the band (Meant for Me, Middle of My Head), the album gathers a much wider range of influences and sounds than its two predecessors.
