Info for Nebula

Unrestrained, intimate and generous, the music of "Smoking Mouse" appeals to the senses. Founded in 2011, this duo possess a strong identity, entering the world of jazz with a narrative style that mixes original writing and improvisation.

Through this project, these two musicians offer a veritable voyage of multiple aesthetics; demanding, free and surprising in its range of timbres and different dynamics.

Christophe Girard, accordion
Anthony Caillet, trumpet, flugelhorn, euphonium

Anthony Caillet
is a part of this new generation of passionate and dynamic musicians who combine constant curiosity with a solid instrumental background. As a concert artist eager for new experiences, his aim is to offer an ever wider range of possibilities going from chamber music and symphonic orchestra to contemporary creations as well as jazz and improvised music.

He began the euphonium in the Ardèche and optained his diplomas finalizing his studies in the Valence music school with Mr. Barthalay and in Mr. Delange's class in Villeurbanne. He then entered Mr. Fritsch's class at the Paris CNSM in 2002 and graduated three years later in 2005 with a Masters degree (DFS) in euphonium, which he obtained with distinction and a unanimously awarded special mention, as well as a first prize in chamber music.

During this period he obtained a second prize at the Prestige des Cuivres international competition in Gebwiller (France) in 2003, a first prize at the ITEC international competition in Budapest (Hungary) in 2004 and a first prize at the international brass competition in Jeju (South Korea).

Since then he has performed at various times with the most important Orchestras and Brass Ensembles: the Orchestre National de Lyon, the Orchestre National d'Ile de France, the Opéra de Paris, the Orchestre National de France, the Orchestre de Paris, the Orchestre de Lyon Brass Ensemble, the Orchestre National de Lille, the Magnifica brass ensemble... In particular, he has played under the direction of Alan Gilbert, Michel Plasson, Jun Markl, Moshe Atzmon, Jukka-Pekka Saraste, Mstislav Rostropovitch, Jean Claude Casadesus, Hartmut Haenchen, Christoph Eschenbach, Andrey Boreyko, Daniele Gatti, Alain Altinoglu. In 2009, he participated in the recording of the complete Mahler's symphonies on DVD with the Orchestre de Paris under the direction of Eschenbach.

He regularly gives Master classes and performs as a soloist with symphony orchestras, wind orchestras, brass-bands and brass ensembles; in recitals with piano, accordion, percussions…. Professor at the Maurice Ravel conservatory in the Paris 13th arrondissement from 2009 to 2011.

These various opportunities to set foot on stage have taken him to numerous countries: Germany, England, Belgium, China, South Korea, Scotland, the Uninted States, Finland, Hongary, Italy, the Netherland, Portugal…

Given the lack of repertoire in his instrument, he has commissioned many pieces, which he premiers: Maxime Aulio, Jean-François Baud, Arnaud Boukhitine, Eric Kozaki, Paul Lay, Marc Lys, Franck Steckar, Paulo Perfeito. He also premiered pieces by Sylvain Boeuf, Michaël Levinas, Sabine Malnoury-Gamet, Dominique Pauwels, Eric Valdenaire, David Wood…

His thirst for learning, to discovery and to multiplying his experiences have taken him into the realm of jazz and improvised music; going beyond the euphonium he also plays: the bass, barytone and alto saxhorn, the valve trombone, the flugabone, the sousaphone, the trumpet and the flugelhorn. He has studied with, among others, François Thuillier, Nicolas Folmer and Pierre Drevet and became a trumpet player in the Electro Deluxe Big Band, sousaphone player in a Quintet directed by Stan Laferrière, euphonium player in the Orchestre Franck Tortiller and frequently plays in a duo or trio with François Thuillier.
