Info for Morning Light

“Morning Light (Silence of a Winter’s Dawn)” is the debut album by tenor saxophonist and composer Rik van der Made, a dazzling blend of contemporary jazz and atmospheric folk. Van der Made tells stories full of spiritual ecstasy, inspired by the sea and the seasons. In recent years, The Dutchman refined his style and technique at the Royal Academy of Music and explored the creative hotbed of London. There he gathered a super group to record this album.

With youthful spirit, Dutch tenor saxophonist Rik van der Made is taking concert stages by storm. His emotional music is thoroughly contemporary: a dazzling mix of modern jazz and atmospheric folk. His love for pure melody and harmony resonates in every note.

He laid the foundation for his musical ambitions at the Tilburg Conservatory, then spent two years refining his style and technique at the Royal Academy of Music in London. Tonight, Van der Made presents his debut album Morning Light – Silence of a Winter's Dawn with his British quintet.

His band members see Van der Made's rich compositions as a springboard for lush improvisations. In London, Van der Made's adventurous spirit was rewarded with the Scott Philbrick Jazz Prize and Craig Ball Award Jazz Saxophone, and earlier this year he was selected for the Music HUB Brabant talent program.
