Info for Hungarian Rhapsody

Every good folk song is already a masterpiece in itself - of this the Hungarian-born composer and Ethnologist Zoltán Kodály was convinced. His efforts to preserve these melodies, was also drive for his interest in the music: in addition to his educational activities, he tried to preserve the musical heritage of his homeland. As an avid collector, his zeal led him since 1905 - together with his friend Béla Bartók and a mechanical recording device - on numerous journeys searching through large parts of Hungary and Romania. The result of this fieldwork, during which time over a hundred thousand melodies were com- piled, can be found in the »Corpus Musicae popularis Hungaricae«, which was first published in the 1950's on records.
