Colombian singer/songwriter Marta Gomez is a wonderful, enigmatic talent. Her voice has the lulling softness that evokes Brazil's female vocal icons, yet there's a depth to her writing that goes far beneath the surface. She's also something of an expert on Latin rhythms -- there are 13 different ones on this disc, all of them rooted in different cultures, from Colombian bambuco to Argentine chamame. But everything is so perfectly put together that you forget the academic side, pulled along by the music and voice. Recorded over just three days, it's a small masterwork. It doesn't matter if you don't understand Spanish, as Gomez evokes delicate moods in her work, each piece beautifully arranged and shaded, with a very live sound. Her last album saw her labeled as a jazz singer, but there's little evidence of that here, possibly quite deliberately. Instead it's an album of low-key Latin music that at times edges toward a more straightforward singer/songwriter stance -- albeit a very classy one (think Joni Mitchell, for example). On the evidence of this and her previous disc, Gomez is a rapidly rising star of genuine quality and inspiration.

Marta Gomez
The Colombian singer/songwriter Marta Gómez is, among other things, the winner of the 2014 Latin Grammy and wrote the song Para la guerra nada (Nothing at all for the war), initiating the international campaign of the same name. She studied at the prestigious Berklee College of Music and was nominated for the Billboard premiere of Latin American music in the jazz category in 2005, together with Paco de Lucía, Gonzalo Rubalcaba and Néstor Torres.

With her album Entre Cada Palabra (Between every word, 2005, Cheesky Records), she received the award for Best National World Music Act in 2006 from the daily newspaper Boston Phoenix (USA).

Her fifth production, Musiquita (2011, Aluna Music), once again placed her in the top ten of the European world music charts for several weeks. Her ninth album, Este Instante (This Moment, 2015, Aluna Music), is full of magic and stories, of invented and concrete realities, which converge in the long-term musical search for her sound, a sound full of freshness and new sounds.

She has also worked with artists such as Martirio, well-known in the world of flamenco and winner of a Grammy and MTV award, Andrea Echeverri, the flagship of Colombian rock and the talented Israeli jazz clarinetist, Anat Cohen.

Her music mixes the joy of the Caribbean and the nostalgia of the Andes, creating songs that draw on everyday life and a deep social and human content.

Marta Gómez currently lives in Barcelona, ​​the place from which she launched her campaign Para la Guerra Nada. A musical project with a clear message: no human effort should be dedicated to the creation of weapons and wars. For this project, Marta collaborated with various artists from all over the world, such as Piero, Leon Gieco, Pedro Aznar and Inti-Illimani.
