Info for Maddalena in Wonderland
A musical and introspective journey into Wonderland - a place as beautiful as it is uncanny, where the laws of nature no longer apply. Inspired by the classic Alice in Wonderland, Maddalena Del Gobbo embarks on a sonic voyage of discovery into a world where nothing is as it seems. Confusion and despair linger at every turn - and yet, hope remains. Despite all uncertainty and dramatic twists, everything ultimately falls into place, for in the end, goodness proves stronger. The program spans four centuries of music - from Tobias Hume (around 1600) to contemporary compositions - drawing a fascinating arc through time and space.

Maddalena Del Gobbo
Born near Udine in Italy, Maddalena Del Gobbo began her exceptional musical education at a very early age. At the age of four, she received piano and ballet lessons, at eight, she began playing the cello, and a little later, she also added singing. Her great talent led her to the Vienna Conservatory at the age of 13.
However, her most important encounter to date didn't occur until a few years later, when she entered a record store where a viola da gamba CD was playing. The magical sound of this instrument immediately captivated her. Although Maddalena Del Gobbo completed her cello studies with a Master's degree with distinction, her heart belongs to the viola da gamba. With this instrument, Maddalena Del Gobbo has performed at renowned festivals and has played as part of the "Musica Antiqua" concert cycle in the Brahms Hall of the Vienna Musikverein, at the Innsbruck Early Music Festival, in the "U21" concert series of BR-Klassik, and in Deutsche Grammophon's "Yellow Lounge."
Maddalena Del Gobbo's debut CD, "Viola d'Emozione," was released in 2014 by Archiv Produktion. Her second CD, "Henriette, the Princess of the Viol," was released by Deutsche Grammophon in the fall of 2016. This makes her the first gambist to release a solo CD with Deutsche Grammophon.
Maddalena Del Gobbo plays a viola da gamba by Johann Seelos from 1691, on loan from the Orpheon Foundation.
