Info for APOCALYPSE

Tomasz Konieczny is an actor by heart. He wanted to study directing after graduating from high school. Too young! Currently he is in demand all over the world as Wotan, Holländer, Pizzaro and much more. The Polish singer has taken advantage of the pandemic to artistically process life during this time. One result is the special song recital APOKALYPSE. With works by Gustav Mahler and a new song cycle by Aleksander Nowak based on Konieczny's favourite poems by Krzsytof Kamil Baczyński. The music will be accompanied by a video installation by Adam Dudek. Music director Ursula Magnes spoke with the singer about current projects, feelings of the father in Mahler's Kindertotenlieder and singing in Polish. Among other things, a "new" Winterreise by Franz Schubert.

The Polish bass-baritone Tomasz Konieczny regularly performs at the most important international stages such as the Met, La Scala, the Bavarian State Opera, the Opéra Bastille and the Semperoper, as well as at the Bayreuth and Salzburg Festivals. His repertoire includes roles such as Wotan, Scarpia, Mandryka, Jochanaan, Telramund, Pizarro and many more. He is also in demand as a concert and lieder singer. He works with renowned conductors such as Christian Thielemann, Marek Janowski and Franz Welser-Möst.

"Tomasz Konieczny, youthfully luminous to be sure, sings this Jupiter in Salzburg almost unsurpassably. His baritone flows in even legato, light-filled, soft, full of power and immeasurable generosity. The voice radiates perfectly over the resonating head. The articulation is exemplary." (Frankfurter Allgemeine)
