Formed by singer-guitarist Moussa Koita, harmonica player Vincent Bucher and drummer Émile Biayenda, Soba revives the links between Mandingo song and Mississippi blues. The trio's Afro-blues is as rustic as it is luminous, exploring the recesses of the human soul.

Moussa Koita, singer and multi-instrumentalist from Burkina Faso, and Vincent Bucher, harmonica player from Paris, have formed the French collective Soba Blues, based on the guitar and harmonica formula so dear to Afro-American rural blues.

Vincent and Émile have been friends and partners for many years, touring Europe and Africa together with Tao Ravao and sometimes even with the Brazza drummers. When the Soba duo was formed, bringing together Moussa and Vincent, the latter had thought of Émile, and fate took care of the rest.

The duo became a trio! Composed of original songs evoking both contemporary and traditional themes, the music of Soba Blues is a cross between the blues of the deep south and the music of the griots and guitar troubadours who have criss-crossed the African continent for decades. Soba's music is very much in tune with today's world, with a no-nonsense approach that touches people right in the heart.

Moussa Koita
is a multi-talented musician, singer, songwriter, composer and arranger from Burkina Faso. Born into a griot family in 1983, he began performing at an early age. His musician father Harouna Koita was a member of the famous group Farafina, and his mother Téné Sanou is a singer in traditional African ceremonies. One of his first mentors was the late Victor Démé, who taught him to play guitar. He has also collaborated with Sam Mangwana, Abou Diarra, Boubacar Traoré and many other well-known figures on the West African music scene. Moussa Koita has lived in France for the past 15 years.

"Aminata," featured on "African Acoustic," addresses the fears and challenges that come with the practice of arranged marriages. "Aminata, ho / It is said everywhere that the date of your marriage is close / One day I came back from my walk / I came to find a big crowd at our house / They were all happy and impatient / I'm so scared of arranged marriages / Aminata, she is my wife."

The "African Celebration" track "Ouaga-Bobo," is about Koita's love and homesickness for his country, which brings him a sense of familiarity, hospitality, joy and brotherhood that nowhere else in the world compares to. "I've traveled all over the world," sings Koita, "I've discovered things / I've visited many places / I haven't seen a place like you yet." The song's vibrant video clip was shot in his hometown Bobo-Dioulasso, the country's second-largest city, and in Ouagadougou, the bustling capital of Burkina Faso.
