Info for Male Gaze (EP)

Rising jazz and soul artist—and visual artist—Darcey Salt has released her new single, “Male Gaze.” This intimate yet provocative acoustic track is featured on her acclaimed debut EP, *In My View*, and marks an emotional high point in the musician’s career thus far.

“Male Gaze” was not originally intended to be included on the EP. However, following intense live performances and the palpable feedback from her audiences, Salt changed her mind at the last minute. She returned to producer Alex Albrow’s studio to record the song, adding the final piece to the puzzle of her musical identity.

“‘Male Gaze’ is my absolute favorite song I’ve ever written,” explains Darcey Salt. “It’s about how men look at women, and why women often simply don’t feel safe in public spaces. When you’re a woman and you’re wearing a beautiful dress, you’ll usually throw something over it so you don’t ‘show’ too much. But what are you actually showing? Your own body? It’s immediately sexualized. I wanted to write a definitive ‘fuck-you’ song and say exactly what needs to be said.”
