Info for A Message From Newport

A fantastic set from the 1958 Newport Jazz Festival featuring Maynard and a cast of many along for the ride. The recording contains cuts both from the performance in front of the audience as well as a few cuts performed earlier in the evening on the CBS radio network broadcast. It also features a left handed trombonist as well as a song with a trio of valve trombones. As always Maynard tends to ride the high register with his clear, powerful phrasing. All but one of the cuts were composed by band members and there must be pride in-ownership by the sound of this set.
