Info for Futique

The long-awaited new album “Futique” will be released on September 26, following the double album project “Celebration of Endings” and “The Myth Of The Happily Ever After” (2020/21).

“Futique is a journey through thoughts, things, and relationships that exist over time—we never know when we're doing something for the last time. And therein lies a certain beauty, but also a sadness. What will your Futique be?” (Simon Neil)

The title is based on Simon's reflections on how our culture of remembrance has changed in the digital age. In the past, people carefully pasted their favorite photos into albums, but today they are available in seconds on smartphones as an endless stream of images.

This reflection brought back memories of people from his youth, of things he misses today – but even more exciting was the question: What will I miss in the future that is important to me today? A thought that particularly occupied him during the 2023 tour with his experimental metal project Empire State Bastard.

He traveled back in his mind to the early days with his bandmates James and Ben Johnston, to bumpy Nirvana covers in the garage rehearsal room at the tender age of 15, to festival stages where the audience stretched to the horizon, and to all the little things that mean everything. Inside jokes, endless conversations, silent understanding that speaks louder than any words.

As in any long-term relationship, Biffy has had its ups and downs. But they have learned to nurture what has always kept them together: a deep, unbreakable love – for each other and for music. Biffy Clyro against the rest of the world: a very personal narrative that nevertheless feels universal. Because let's be honest – who doesn't sometimes forget how precious the here and now is in the whirlwind of everyday life?

"Futique is an album to cherish, not just because we get to keep Britain’s biggest and most exciting rock band and witness the continuation of a success story that’ll never stop being surprising, but because it’s a bold, fresh effort full of tunes that are simultaneously immediate and deep. And if Biffy Clyro are still making music that’s this good 10 albums in, there’s no reason they can’t keep going ’mon and on forever." (James Hickie, kerrang.com)

"Although they may never reach the same dizzying heights of world recognition and fame, for me, Biffy Clyro are my generation’s Led Zeppelin. Fearlessly experimental, melodically pioneering and unashamedly unique. Album number ten for a lot of bands would be an opportunity to just phone in what the people want, but Biffy Clyro are still out here setting new standards and redefining who and what they are. Let yourself enjoy the adventure of this record, and if you can see them live on this album cycle, then don’t miss the opportunity to witness greatness." (Phil Nicholas, v13.net)

Biffy Clyro

Biffy Clyro
Biffy Clyro's biography begins in Scotland starting in 1995. Their lineup has stayed consistent for the duration of their activity, with Simon Neil on guitar, James Johnston playing bass, and Ben Johnston handling drums. Simon Neil serves as the primary vocalist and lyricist, but all three have participated with vocals and songwriting. The band took a brief break for education before their first release in 1999, Blackened Skies. By this point, they were regularly playing shows with alternative rock bands. The band released two more full-length albums as they more fully explored and rounded out their sound. The two albums, The Vertigo of Bliss and Infinity Land, were well-received and helped the band reach new fans. In 2007, Biffy Clyro released Puzzle, with much of the music concerning the passing of Neil's mother. The album featured artwork by Storm Thorgerson, most widely known for his Pink Floyd album covers. Puzzle was extremely successful, with six songs as singles and selling enough in the U.K. to reach Platinum status. Biffy Clyro would continue working with Thorgerson for the artwork on their next two albums, Only Revolutions and Opposites. Both albums received fantastic critical reception. The band continued their musical experimentation on both albums, noting that not all of the experiments made it to either record. For the album Opposites, the band played on Later... With Jools Holland, with guest supporters Mike Vennart of Oceansize and Richard Ingram of British Theater. Starting in 2007, the band was nominated for New Sounds of Europe, going on to win several awards since 2010. These include such auspicious awards as Best Live Band and Best British Band. They have also played the Reading and Leads Festival and toured with such music groups as Linkin Park, Queens of the Stone Age, and Muse.

This album contains no booklet.
