Florian Kohlscheen and Nico Graz unite their instruments guitar and bandono on their debut album ‘La vida breve’ and thus open up impressive insights into the sound world of Spanish and South American concert music. In their programme, they present a selection of compositions from the late 19th and early 20th centuries (Isaa Albéniz, Manuel de Falla, Heitor Villa-Lobos and others) as well as works by contemporary composers such as Marco Pereira, Egberto Gismonti and Quique Sinesi.

The combination of guitar and bandoneon plays a decisive role both in Tango Argentino and in the music of Astor Piazzolla. In Spanish and South American music, however, this instrumentation is virtually unknown. As there are no duets for both instruments outside of tango, the extensive repertoire of the classical guitar was used for this programme. All the pieces were arranged for guitar and bandoneon by Nico Graz and Florian Kohlscheen and are first recordings for this instrumentation.

With their programme ‘La vida breve’, the musicians dedicate themselves to the concert music of Spain and South America; it includes works by three Spanish composers - Manuel de Falla, Isaac Albéniz and Enrique Granados as well as five South American composers - Quique Sinesi (Argentina), Agustín Barrios Mangoré (Paraguay), Egberto Gismonti (Brazil), Heitor Villa Lobos (Brazil) and Marco Pereira (Brazil).

Florian Maximilian Kohlscheen
was born in 1994 in Landsberg am Lech and found his way to the guitar at the age of 10. He discovered jazz and improvised music early on and found like-minded musicians in Mark Pusker (saxophone), Gabriel Barreira (double bass) and Ruben Lipka (drums) with whom he could experiment and develop his own musical aesthetic. His debut album entitled "Intuition" was released in 2015 with this line-up.

From 2012 to 2014 he attended the vocational music school in Sulzbach-Rosenberg. He then studied classical guitar at the Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media with Prof. Frank Bungarten, which he completed with distinction. After his studies, he made numerous trips to Granada / Andalusia. There he learned to play the flamenco guitar with Alberto Fernández Lopez. Florian Kohlscheen was a scholarship holder of the Ernst von Siemens Foundation, the Nina Dieckmann Foundation and the "Music Needs Friends" Foundation of the Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media's support group.

Florian Kohlscheen gives concerts throughout Europe with different line-ups and genres. In 2021 he founded DUONOVA together with Nico Graz.

Nico Graz
was born in Kelheim in 1995 and began to learn accordion at the age of 5. Due to his outstanding performance, he was accepted into Victor Dukart's accordion class. He took part in numerous competitions with him as a child and won the German Accordion Music Prize, among others. Solo concerts in Italy, France and Germany followed. From 2011 to 2014 he completed his first musical training in accordion with Helmut Weinzierl at the vocational school for music in Plattling with an additional artistic year in concert accordion. This was followed by jazz studies at the University of Music in Würzburg with a major in saxophone under Prof. Hubert Winter, which he completed with distinction. After his studies, he learned to play the bandoneon in Buenos Aires with the Argentinian tango bandoneonist Hugo Satorre. In 2021 he founded DUONOVA together with Florian Kohlscheen; the focus here is on the bandoneon.

Nico Graz is the winner of the Biberach Jazz Prize. In addition to numerous studio productions as an accordionist and saxophonist, he performs throughout Europe as a soloist and in various projects. Through his training in the genres of classical and jazz, he is able to benefit from both worlds and let the music sound in a new guise.
