Info for Shawn
Shawn’s fifth studio release draws deeply from his travels and experiences over the last few years, following the cancellation of his 2022 tour. It represents his most musically intimate and lyrically honest work to date, guiding listeners through a profound self-dialogue with each song.
Speaking on the album, Shawn said “Music really can be medicine. Two years ago, I felt like I had absolutely no idea who I was. A year ago, I couldn’t step into a studio without falling into complete panic. So to be here right now with 12 beautiful finished songs feels like such a gift. Honestly thank god for my friends and family. Life can be brutal but having a small group of people you deeply trust to walk you through makes it so much better. I really hope you love this album, I do. I really really do. I hope it makes you feel warm and close to the earth like it does for me.”
Written and recorded over the course of two years, the project was crafted in diverse locations including Nosara, Costa Rica; Clubhouse Studio in Rhinebeck, NY; Bear Creek Studio in Washington State; Darkhorse Recordings in Nashville; and Electric Lady in New York City.
At one point, the Canadian crooner is seemingly writing his upcoming album’s tracklist on a whiteboard. He wrote as the caption: “I wish I could show you every moment of making this album because it truly was so healing, but I’m glad you’re even getting a glimpse…definitely learned so much about not taking myself too seriously in the studio those days & how that could actually often times lead me to exactly what i was searching for.”
The album was written & co-produced by Mendes, alongside collaborators Scott Harris, Mike Sabath (Raye’s My 21st Century Blues), Nate Mercereau (Andre 3000’s New Blue Sun), and Eddie Benjamin, with additional songs co-written by GRAMMY award winning writer Amy Allen and Ethan Gruska (Bon Iver and Phoebe Bridgers). The record also features instrumentation from the Punch Brothers’ Chris Thile.
In a heartfelt message on Instagram about the album, Shawn shared, “Music really can be medicine. Two years ago, I felt like I had absolutely no idea who I was. A year ago, I couldn’t step into a studio without falling into complete panic. So to be here right now with 12 beautiful finished songs feels like such a gift. Honestly thank god for my friends and family.

Shawn Mendes
Mendes was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada and was raised in Pickering, a suburb of the city. He first started posting cover videos on the popular social video app Vine in 2013 and picked up millions of views and followers in a matter of months, becoming well known for his six-second snippets of renditions of many popular songs. Artist manager Andrew Gertler discovered Mendes online in January 2014, bringing him to Island Records where he eventually signed and released his first single 'Life of the Party' in June 2014. He is the youngest artist to debut in the top 25 with a debut song on the Billboard Hot 100, debuting at number 24 for the week ending July 12, 2014 at 15 years, 9 months and 24 days of age. Prior to his signing, Mendes toured as a member of the MagCon Tour alongside other young artists and social media sensations. Mendes also is currently on a nationwide tour with Austin Mahone and released his debut major label EP in July, with a debut album due out later in 2014. He won the Teen Choice award in 2014 for Webstar in Music.
