Info for Landman (From the Paramount+ Original Series)
Andrew Lockington is a film and television composer who composed the scores for many films including blockbuster hits City of Ember, Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters, Sandreas, and Rampage, as well as hit television shows like Mayor of Kingstown, Special Ops: Lioness, and his latest Landman, starring Billy Bob Thornton.
Andrew's work is known for its creativity and attention to detail. We spoke about some of those techniques like how he recorded in a prison for Mayor of Kingstown and used its gates, walls, bars as musical instruments. Andrew explains how this kind of extra effort can help us bring out the emotional impact in our work.
The album features selections of the show’s original music composed by Andrew Lockington (San Andreas, Journey to the Center of the Earth, Mayor of Kingstown, Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters, Rampage, Atlas, Frontier). The soundtrack will be released digitally March 14.
Landman is is created by Taylor Sheridan and stars Billy Bob Thornton, Ali Larter, Demi Moore, Michelle Randolph, Jacob Lofland, Kayla Wallace, James Jordan, Paulina Chávez, Mark Collie, as well as Jon Hamm, Andy Garcia and Michael Peña. The drama based on Imperative Entertainment’s podcast Boomtown is set in the proverbial boomtowns of West Texas and tells a modern-day tale of fortune seeking in the world of oil rigs. The series premiered this past November, December & January on Paramount+ and has just been renewed for a second season.
Landman is the latest Taylor Sheridan success story. Based on the podcast series Boomtown created and hosted by Christian Wallace (who co-created the show with Sheridan), Landman follows the cutthroat world of the oil industry in modern-day Texas as hungry magnates go to great lengths to get rich. The series stars Billy Bob Thornton as the gruff Tommy Norris, but also features Ali Larter, Jon Hamm, Demi Moore, and more.
Andrew Lockington: I listened to it when I first was approached by Taylor to do the project. There’s one episode in particular that focuses on a true story about multi-generational workers being killed in an accident, so I listened to that. I honestly can't remember what the music was, so it didn't really have any effect on the approach we took, but the whole vibe of the podcast, and even Christian's way that he narrated, felt like it was very well translated into the fictional series that Taylor did.
