Lilit Grigoryan
The pianist Lilit Grigoryan has established herself in recent years as a fixture in the European music landscape. Maria João Pires describes her as a musician with exceptional expressiveness and a clear, decisive musical language. The international press praises her interpretations as matured beyond their years (BBC Music Magazine) and celebrates them as a bright spot in the field of interchangeable piano (MDR Kultur).

The year 2025 marked a special milestone in her career: With Sonata Facile, her debut solo album was released by Berlin Classics in February and founded the beginning of an exclusive collaboration. The recording, which is highly praised by the international press, is dedicated to supposedly “light” sonatas and sonatins by Mozart, Ravel, Beethoven and Medtner, which prove to be technically sophisticated and musically profound. Sonata Facile was also named album of the week on rbb Radio 3. In February 2026 a new album will be released by Berlin Classics: a chamber music recording together with the bassoonist David Petersen. This musical statement makes the romantic music tradition of Leipzig shine in a new timbre. The program combines three outstanding works by Schumann, Mendelssohn and Moscheles, which can be heard rarely or for the first time in this cast. Another solo recording is already being planned and will be realized in April in cooperation with Deutschlandfunk Kultur in Cologne.

Already in 2024 she set important artistic accents. Her debut in the Berliner Philharmonie with the Ensemble Dimensions founded by her, an impressive concert with the Hamburger Camerata in the Elbphilharmonie under Vilmantas Kaliunas and a celebrated China tour were among the highlights of the season. She was a guest at renowned festivals such as the Festival PAAX GNP in Mexico, the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Festival and the Krzyzowa Music Festival and made music in solo and chamber music projects with artists such as Viviane Hagner, Daniel Müller-Schott, Karolina Errera, Alexey Stadler, Sasha Rattle and Sara Ferrández. As part of the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Festival, she led a master class at the International Summer Campus Rostock together with Pierre-Laurent Aimard and devoted herself intensively to working with young musicians.

As a soloist and chamber musician, she is in demand worldwide. Her performances took her to important concert halls such as the Berliner Philharmonie, Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, Philharmonie de Paris, Concertgebouw Amsterdam, BOZAR Brussels, Palau de la Música Catalana, Auditorium Nacional de Música Madrid and the Halle aux Grains in Toulouse. She was also a guest at well-known festivals such as the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Festival, the Festival d’Auvers-sur-Oise, Colmar and the Verbier Festival. She also enjoys a high reputation in the field of chamber music. She performs concerts with artists such as Maria João Pires, Viviane Hagner, Claudio Bohórquez, Valeriy Sokolov and Karolina Errera.

In addition to her concert work, Lilit Grigoryan has released several highly acclaimed albums. Her debut album was released in 2012 on DiscAuverS with works by Scarlatti, Schumann, Bartók and Khachaturian. This was followed by chamber music recordings with Hiyoli Togawa, Sarah Christian and Karolina Errera (Naxos, 2018; Genuin 2017 and 2022) as well as the internationally acclaimed album Variations sérieuses (Orchid Classics, 2018) with works by Bach-Busoni, Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Bizet and Szymanowski. Her recording of Mompou’s Música callada, released at Orchid Classics in 2021, was awarded by Apple Music as one of the best recordings of the year.

Born in Yerewan (Armenia) in 1985, she began her musical training with Arkuhi Harutyunyan and later studied with Sergei Sarajyan and Matthias Kirschnereit. From 2012 to 2016 she was Artist in Residence at the Chapelle Musicale Reine Elisabeth in Belgium, where she was supervised by Maria João Pires – an artistic connection that continues to this day. The pianist was awarded the renowned Cultural Prize of the Armenian President and has been a Yamaha Artist since April 2023.

Parallel to her international work as a pianist, Lilit Grigoryan is committed to the training of young musicians. She was a lecturer and artistic assistant at the University of Music and Theater Rostock and is also active at the Young Academy Rostock. In December 2025 she was appointed professor of piano at the hmt Rostock.
