Info for Rachmaninoff & Chopin: Cello Sonatas

Featuring works for cello and piano by Chopin and Rachmaninov, Denise is joined by her regular chamber music partner, pianist David Jalbert. The album explores works by these two composers more often known for their piano music, who in these pieces, demonstrate the virtuosity of both instruments.

Chopin and Rachmaninov are alike in several respects: both were great pianists with high-strung temperaments, and both were Slavs who were inescapably constrained to exile by revolution. Composed early in the 20th century, Rachmaninov’s music is in many ways a continuation of Chopin’s art, as this recording demonstrates.

“She plays with a seemingly natural ease and her glowing, warm tone and honest musical interpretations draw the listener into her complete commitment to the music.” (The Strad)

“Djokic’s tone and intonation were captivating” (Globe & Mail)

Denise Djokic, cello
David Jalbert, piano
