Info for ZILT

ZILT originated in a whiskey bar on Zeedijk, Amsterdam. Here tenor saxophonist Jasper Blom and trumpeter Ian Cleaver, teacher and student respectively, dedicated themselves every week to compositions by Misha Mengelberg, and by Duke Ellington: jazz legends from different eras and with a similarly open and playful character. ZILT interweaves their compositions through improvising. At this concert, ZILT will present a new album on Just Listen Records.

Jasper Blom is one of the leading saxophone players in the Netherlands. As is tradition in jazz, and holds true for both Ellington and Mengelberg and their bands, Blom takes a younger generation on board, teaching them the tricks of the trade, and mentoring them into carving out their own place in the jazz realm. Trumpeter Ian Cleaver, double bassist Thomas Pol, and drummer Wouter Kühne effortlessly mix up old and new styles. Special guest during for this album presentation is alto saxophonist Benjamin Herman.

“Blom is a typical “musicians musician”, praised by his colleagues, loved by the connoisseur. As an excellent musician and producer Jasper Blom knows exactly how to shape his ideas….. the musical material is outstanding.”
