Info for Jeux D'Air
With our recording «Jeux d’Air» we present french piano music in a whole new way, arranged and transformed especially for our Reed Quintet: oboe, clarinet, saxophone, bass clarinet and bassoon. Chamber music is our passion and we are devoted to the combination of sound colors of each instrument. The delicate nature of this program showcases the full spectrum of our ensemble’s sound. Four of the works were arranged especially for «Jeux d’Air».
Reeds in Motion:
Catarina Castro, Oboe
Lionel Andrey, Klarinette
Rahel Kohler, Saxophon
Filipa Nunes, Bassklarinette
Till Schneider, Fagott
Reeds in Motion
is an innovative formation. As the name suggests, it brings together reed instruments in an unusual and novel combination that allows for both intimacy and orchestral fullness, thanks to a rich and fascinating palette of sounds.
Based in Switzerland, Reeds in Motion performs both in this country – notably at the Menuhin Festival in Gstaad, as part of Lavaux Classique and KlangBasel – and internationally, for example for France Musique in Paris and at the International Wind Festival in Yerevan. The ensemble has initiated numerous arrangements; these expand the repertoire of this instrumentation and enable, through new tonal colors, a (re)discovery of well-known works. For this purpose, the musicians work closely with the arranger Stefan Schröter. The ensemble also incorporates contemporary pieces into its concerts. Reeds in Motion designs its programs around particular themes that allow the musicians to exploit the full richness of sound of the reed quintet.
Founded in 2017 by Catarina Castro (oboe), Lionel Andrey (clarinet), Rahel Kohler (saxophone), Filipa Nunes (bass clarinet), and Till Schneider (bassoon), the members are all sought-after soloists, chamber and orchestral musicians. They play with the Zurich Opera Orchestra, the Bern Symphony Orchestra, the Basel Chamber Orchestra, the Lucerne Festival Alumni Orchestra, the Basel Symphony Orchestra, the Trio Eclipse and the Ensemble Zefirno, among others.
