Info for Circle of Elements
"Circle of Elements"- an almost philosophical title for the second album by the Katharina Maschmeyer Quartet - the musical and compositional diversity of which is perfectly reached. The pieces by the two composers, Katharina Maschmeyer and Nils Pollheide, are always based on their own stories. Tales fed by their own experience, of moments from their own lives, passionately conceived monuments of thought - the entire "circle of elements". This composes the colour and characteristic style of their musical creativity, and leads to both spirited grooves and moments of soulful lyricism.
Invited by the Quartet to be a guest soloist, Frederik Köster makes a brilliant contribution to this "Circle of Elements". His virtuoso trumpet playing weaves through the band's sound bringing inspirational impetus and compositional intelligence, placing dazzling touches to their energetic grooves. This is a true interaction between artists who share a deep and mutual musical understanding, far beyond the usual guest role.
Modern jazz from the Katharina Maschmeyer Quartet - with "Circle of Elements" they are playing into the future!
"... These musicians are absolute specialists in their trade. With instrumental class and a lot of verve they have dedicated themselves to amusic which may be regarded as a reflex of the Modern Jazz of the late sixties. But in addition to this tradition the composers Nils Pollheide and Katharina Maschmeyer conserved their musical autonomy.... `Circle of Elements´ is a very mature and convincing musical document...."
