The sudden death of Billie Holiday would prompt a considerable number of tributes and accolades, none more heartfelt as that delivered by Sam Cooke. The former gospel singer turned soul singer, who appealed right across the board, produced an album that was both a tribute to a lost artist and a statement of intent to a rising one. Whilst the album received little or no promotion at the time of release, it has since become acknowledged as one of Sam s finest recordings here it is once again in all its glory.
