Info for Body and Soul
Marian Petrescu is a classically trained Romanian pianist with dazzling technique - often compared to Oscar Peterson & Art Tatum. Marian's own swinging virtuoso style of playing impresses jazz fans all over the world, but surprisingly "Body And Soul" is Marian's first CD, under his own name. On this quartet album he is joined by the acclaimed young swing guitarist, Andreas Oberg.
Born in 1970, he studied at music conservatories in Sweden & Finland. He was already playing to jazz audiences at 15. He has won a number of jazz festival prizes, has appeared across Europe and has worked with many big names : Arturo Sandoval, Toots Thielemans, Al Jarreau, Didier Lockwood, Richie Beirach, Tony Williams, Ulf Wakenius, Ray Charles band, Lars Danielsson, Ron McClure, etc. In 1989 he was called "the Horowitz of Jazz Piano" by his mentor, Martial Solal. Nowadays, Marian also runs his own jazz & classical music school.
