Expanding on their signature folkloric and surreal storytelling, the record draws from an archaic wisdom that feels both forgotten and urgently alive. Inspired by their name, reclaimed from 17th-century rural English carvings once used to ward off witches, the duo create music untethered to place, suspended between worlds where the veil feels thin, weaving in the open-road energy of their songs: from the county fair ride in ‘Tilt-A-Whirl’, to the imagined small towns of ‘Country Sour’ to the Pre-Raphaelite-inspired reverie of ‘Changeling’. Folklore and imagination intertwine here, creating a space both familiar and strange, where time stretches and moments linger. The result is a spellbound, immersive experience, offering a strange, magnetic sense of belonging for those willing to step inside.

Speaking on the story behind Butterfly, the band share: “Butterfly is the spring thaw after Beast. Country fair rides, angels and pixies, talismans, an impulsive fling in a small town, coyotes, fawns - we wanted to contrast the wintry rock of Beast and take listeners on a sonic road trip of different perspectives and in-between places.”

Witch Post
is a band comprised of Scottish musician Dylan Fraser and American musician Alaska Reid. They met by chance, both having solo careers in the music industry but on different sides of the coin. Coincidentally they also discovered that they are from towns of the same name, one in Scotland, one in Montana. Alaska comes from the American indie scene and Dylan from the UK’s alternative scene.

Witch Post seeks to reclaim band music. They write songs that honour the wolffish qualities of Scottish Rock n’ Roll & the driving openness of American music. The name Witch Post comes from 17th century carvings in rural England that were crafted to ward off witches. Alaska and Dylan have adopted the name in honour of the witch. Through the craft of songwriting, they explore the fabric of the world & how they feel.
