Sion Dey recently finished working on I Am Dying, a documentary special for The National Geographic Channel helmed by Academy Award® winning directors TJ Martin and Dan Lindsay. The documentary chronicles people’s final days before death, celebrating their lives and legacy through verité footage, home movies, photos and interviews with friends and family. Producers include Joaquin Phoenix, Casey Affleck and Mary Lisio of Ridley’s Scott’s production company, Scott Free.

TJ Martin and Sion are also currently developing a project entitled Life Altered, a three channel installation examining issues of race and the human body.

With a unique and sought-after fresh style to his original music, Sion has been commissioned to write and produce his first album which promises to be a beautiful body of work from this exciting, young composer.

Sion Dey
is a multi instrumentalist and composer. He briefly played session guitar with Mike Ladd for a while and in the two years since completing his musical studies, he worked on a number of documentaries and short films. He wrote the music for I Am Dying, a documentary special for The National Geographic Channel helmed by Academy Award® winning directors TJ Martin and Dan Lindsay. The documentary chronicles people’s final days before death, celebrating their lives and legacy through verité footage, home movies, photos and interviews with friends and family. Producers included Joaquin Phoenix, Casey Affleck and Mary Lisio of Ridley’s Scott’s production company, Scott Free.

He composed the music for the Darren Aronofsky helmed campaign for the New York Times; short films chronicling the lives of four photojournalists in the search to uncover the truth within various aspects of conflict and displacement. This went onto garner multiple accolades including the Grand Prix for Craft at the Cannes Lions.

He scored Zipper Brothers produced experimental documentary Ramblin’ Freak; director Parker Smith’s debut feature that premiered at SXSW which the Indiewire Critics’ survey named as one of the best docs of the festival.

His first album, Folding Walls, focusing on the themes of memory and forgetting is published and released on Manners Mcdade (Nils Frahm, Poppy Ackroyd). He spent seven months recording across the U.K. in various locations recording various solo strings and other electro-acoustic instruments.

He is currently working on the music for the debut film of Mobolaji Olambiwonnu, Ferguson Rises. A documentary that presents and examines various perspectives of the town in the aftermath of the killing of Mike Brown by police officer Darren Wilson. This project is executive produced by T.J. Martin and David Owelowo.
