Info for Pärt: The Kristjan Järvi Sound Project - Passacaglia

This fourth volume in the Kristjan Järvi Sound Project series is a tribute to his close friend and countryman composer Arvo Pärt, one of the most emblematic figures in contemporary music, to mark the celebration of his 80th birthday.

Constantly inspired by pioneering, thrilling and exhilarating ideas, American-Estonian conductor Kristjan Järvi has gathered works spanning 40 years of Pärt’s compositions, as a culmination of of years of collaboration, musical exploration and spiritual connection.

Pärt’s music and minimalist style can exhale, more than ever, this unique, fascinating and pure intensity. This is also thanks to the art of renowned American violinist Anne Akiko Meyers in the trilogy for solo violin and strings recreated by Kristjan Järvi: 'Darf ich', 'Passacaglia' and the violin and strings version of 'Fratres' (1977-1992).

Anne Akiko Meyers
regularly concertizes around the world and is internationally cele- brated for her artistry and ability to connect with audiences in concert, online, over the radio and on television. In 2014, Ms. Meyers was US Billboard’s top-selling classical ins- trumentalist.

This fall, she will be featured on PBS performing the world premiere of Samuel Jones’ Violin Concerto with the All-Star Orchestra, led by Gerard Schwarz. Meyers will also pre- miere Mason Bates’ Violin Concerto in Lyon, France with Leonard Slatkin. She co-com- missioned the Bates Concerto with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, recorded it with the London Symphony Orchestra, and has performed it extensively throughout North America. Meyers’s recent and upcoming performances included recital and concerto appearances in North and South America, Europe and Asia, including performances with the Chicago, Detroit, Nashville, and National Symphony Orchestras.

Anne’s previous releases, “The American Masters” was Google Play’s Best of 2014 and “Four Seasons: The Vivaldi Album” and “Air: The Bach Album” both debuted at #1 on the classical US Billboard charts. The Vivaldi recording marked the recording debut of the ‘Ex-Vieuxtemps’ Guarneri del Gesu violin, dated 1741, which was awarded to Meyers for her lifetime use. This instrument is considered by many to be the nest sounding violin in existence.

Outside of the traditional classical eld, Anne Akiko Meyers has collaborated with a diverse array of artists, including jazz icons Chris Botti and Wynton Marsalis, and pop superstars Il Divo, and Michael Bolton. She performed the National Anthem in front of 42,000 fans at Safeco Field in Seattle, appeared twice on The Tonight Show, and was featured in popular segments on MSNBC’s Countdown with Keith Olbermann, CBS Sun- day Morning, NPR’s Morning Edition with Linda Wertheimer, All Things Considered with Robert Siegel and a recent episode of CBS’ ‘The Good Wife’.

Anne Akiko Meyers was born in San Diego, California and grew up in Southern California. She studied with Alice and Eleonore Schoenfeld at the Colburn School of Performing Arts, Josef Gingold at Indiana University, and Felix, Galimir, Masao Kawasaki and Dorothy DeLay at the Juilliard School.
