Info for The Magic Hour Collection
Jhene Aiko, known for her effortlessly soothing and stunning vocal chops in the R&B/soul genre, is back with a new single titled “Guidance.” This release is a refreshing treat for fans who have been eagerly awaiting new music from the Los Angeles native. Aiko’s last studio album, Chilombo, came out in 2020, and while she has kept a relatively low profile in terms of new albums, she has kept her audience engaged with various projects. These include the re-release of her 2011 debut mixtape Sailing Soul(s) in 2021 and a soothing soundtrack for babies in 2022. Earlier this year, she released the single “Sun/Son,” which hinted at the possibility of a new album on the horizon.
A Los Angeles native, Jhené Aiko has remained at the forefront of a new wave of contemporary R&B for more than a decade. She is known for experimenting with a range of styles – incorporating sound healing, modern mantra, and the use of crystal alchemy sound bowls in her music. She crowned a breakthrough year in 2020 with over three billion streams worldwide and three Grammy® nominations for her third studio album, Chilombo, including Album of The Year. Chilombo, now certified platinum with seven gold and platinum singles, topped the charts twice and was nominated for four Billboard Music Awards, an American Music Award for Best Soul/R&B female, two Soul Train Awards, won the NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Album and was a 2021 BET Award nominee for Best Female R&B Artist. In 2022, Aiko performed “America the Beautiful” at Super Bowl LVI.

Jhené Aiko
Born and raised in Los Angeles, R&B singer/songwriter Jhené Aiko first came to prominence during the early years of the 2000s when she was signed to Epic and contributed vocals to several tracks for labelmates B2K. Coming from a musical family, with two of her sisters (Miyoko and Jamila) members of the group Gyrl, Aiko had all the musical grounding to launch her later successes through various appearances on music videos and soundtracks.
After collaborating with other artists during her early to mid-teens, she took a brief hiatus to finish her education. In 2011, she released her comeback mixtape, Sailing Soul(s), comprised of dreamy, minimal R&B vocals; it was entirely written by Aiko herself and featured collaborations with Drake, Gucci Mane, and Kanye West. In 2012, she signed with Def Jam through No I.D.'s ARTium imprint and released the single "3:16AM." The following year proved to be pivotal for Aiko — she featured on Big Sean's Top 40 hit "Beware" and teamed up with Drake for an appearance on his highly anticipated album Nothing Was the Same. Critics praised her performance with Drake, which raised her profile globally.
In November 2013 she released her debut EP, Sail Out, which included the tracks "Bed Peace" (featuring Childish Gambino) and "The Worst," the latter of which peaked at number nine on Billboard's R&B chart. Souled Out, her proper debut album, was released the following September.
