His “Project” has now been around for a decade and a half. The reason Achim Seifert doesn’t call his group a “band” may well be that every recording is different, and aims to be different, including in terms of line-up and the musicians involved. On his latest album, “Dünyalar”, he performed as part of a sextet, searching for the roots of his father, who is of Turkish descent. Now he’s back with a new line-up: a quartet. Alongside drummer Rafa Müller, saxophonist Hayden Chisholm and pianist Lars Duppler, the bassist – who otherwise provides the grooves for Trilok Gurtu, Udo Lindenberg and Eko Fresh – plays music that is less intricate and more harmonically open. Seifert has composed pieces that are melodically strong, with compact arrangements, yet which still give all the musicians space to express themselves in their own personal way. Hayden Chisholm, in particular, captivates with his soulful use of a rich palette of timbres. Achim Seifert himself holds the whole thing together with a comfortably warm pulse; he does take solos, but never for the sake of soloing. And so, on “Woven Strings”, the individual musicians’ contributions intertwine wonderfully to create relaxed, flowing soundscapes of timeless beauty.

Achim Seifert
is a German-Turkish bassist and composer, born in Germany in 1985. His father, a Turkish drummer, introduced him to music at an early age. After spending his youth playing experimental rock music, he realised more and more his enthusiasm and talent for jazz. In 2016, this talent was rewarded with a nomination for the ECHO JAZZ (Best Bassist National).

Achim Seifert was the first electric bassist to study "Artistic Training" at the University of Music and Drama in Hanover and at the age of 22 received a scholarship to study at the renowned Berklee College of Music in Boston. Two years later, he was able to study and work with greats such as Oscar Stagnaro (Paquito d'rivera), Lincoln Goines (Mike Stern), Hal Crook, David Fiuczynski, Andy Mcghee, Dave Samuels, Sarah Brindell and Eguie Castrillo (Jennifer Lopez) for nine months. The scholarship gave him a new perspective on jazz. It was during this time that he wrote some of the compositions that were released on his acclaimed debut album "Plans to wake up on the beach" (2012) after his return.

In 2010, Achim's band, the Achim Seifert Project, won the Future Sounds competition at the Leverkusen Jazz Days and was featured on the main stage with a WDR broadcast in 2011. After the acclaimed performance, the Kölner Stadtanzeiger praised Achim Seifert as a "star that no one had been before." The Achim Seifert Project has played as a support act for jazz legends such as Randy Crawford and Christian McBride; in 2014 Achim Seifert had the honour of touring the world with Trilok Gurtu. Max Mutzke and Udo Lindenberg hired him to record their CDs. In 2015, the second album of the Achim Seifert Project was released with the title "...noticed my heart", in 2018 Care Music released the third album "Versus".

In addition to his concert activities, Achim is a lecturer for jazz electric bass at the Institute of Music at the Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences and a producer. The song "Haven't you seen the world", which he composed and produced, was nominated for the German Songwriting Award (GSA) in the pop category.
