Info for Crow Jam

Bringing together three distinctive and accomplished voices from the European and UK jazz scenes, Crow Jam is the debut album from the Tret Trio — saxophonist Rob Hall, keyboardist Tobias Weindorf, and guitarist Philipp van Endert — recorded in April 2024 at Jazzsick Studio in Germany. Known individually for their lyrical sensibility and compositional depth, the trio shares compositional duties equally across the album, resulting in a democratic and intimate collaboration that blurs the lines between chamber jazz, modern European improvisation, and lyrical exploration.

Rob Hall's expressive and genre-fluid approach, honed over decades of international performance and teaching, provides the melodic backbone to the trio's interplay. German pianist Tobias Weindorf contributes a subtle rhythmic elasticity through his Wurlitzer work, echoing his background in the Bundesjazzorchester and European jazz ensembles. Guitarist Philipp van Endert, a seasoned performer and professor with a lyrical but emotionally incisive tone, rounds out the group with harmonic sensitivity and textural nuance.

While Crow Jam is rich in space and subtle dynamics, it never drifts; each composition reveals a careful balance of melodic accessibility and sophisticated improvisation. Whether through fragile harmonic textures or spontaneous bursts of rhythm, the trio weaves a cohesive narrative shaped as much by restraint as by their deep-rooted individual artistry.

TRET Trio
TRET TRIO is a dynamic combination of three experienced jazz luminaries from the UK and central Europe scene, who together explore the unusual setting of saxophones (Rob Hall) and two harmony instruments - guitar (Philipp van Endert) and Wurlitzer e-piano (Tobias Weindorf).

Formed in 2023, the ensemble has played concerts in their respective countries, including Alte Post Kulturforum (Neuss), Heimathirsch Jazz Club (Köln), Chelmsford Cathedral and The Jazz Centre UK.

In 2025 the ensemble launched their debut album CROW JAM in a joint label release between JazzSick Records (Germany) and FMR (UK), in both CD and LP formats, recorded at their creative home, JazzSick Studios, Düsseldorf.

TRET TRIO engages listeners with their distinctive recipe of improvised virtuosity, interaction, intimacy, poignancy, abstraction and humor through well-crafted compositions that have both an immediate and a lasting impact.

Scottish multi-instrumentalist Rob Hall (saxophone, clarinet and piano), renowned German jazz guitarist Philipp van Endert and outstanding German pianist Tobias Weindorf present a diverse program of lyrical, adventurous music and reinterpreted repertoire from the jazz canon. With their extensive touring experience, they have produced dozens of recordings featuring luminaries such as Kenny Wheeler, Jim Mullen, Lee Konitz and many others, and composed new music penned by soloists and orchestras.
