Info for Melt

Melt is the debut solo album and "alternate reality" from María Zardoya, the lead singer and songwriter of the Grammy-nominated indie-pop band The Marías. The idea began with a question, which came to Zardoya while isolating in the snowy hills of Upstate New York: "Is love worth the pain?" As if under nature’s spell, Zardoya transformed her winter heartache into a collection of intimate psychedelic ballads, imbued with a touch of gothic romanticism.

“My intention with this project was to make music for the love of experimenting, far from home, fully in the moment, open to whatever stream of consciousness unfolded around us,” Zardoya explains. “That’s exactly what we did in the snowy woods, tucked away, as ice melted beneath our feet and as we melted into the songs. What grew from the melted ice is this album.”

María Zardoya aka Not for Radio
Puerto Rican-bred and Atlanta-raised, María Zardoya is the frontwoman of Grammy-nominated band, The Marías, known for their dreamy fusion of psychedelic rock, jazz, and Latin influences. Through the releases of two critically acclaimed albums, Cinema and Submarine, Zardoya has charmed audiences with her bi-lingual sultry vocals. The singer-songwriter has been instrumental in earning The Marías the reputation behind their impressive upward trajectory, including two Grammy nominations, a Billboard chart-topper, and collaborations with some of the biggest names in Latin Music. Zardoya is featured with Bad Bunny on “Otro Atardecer” off of Un Verano Si Ti, and most recently co-wrote and sang vocals on Selena Gomez & Benny Blanco’s “Ojos Tristes,” which garnered over 20 million global streams in less than a week of release and debuted at #59 on the Billboard Hot 100.

On the band's sophomore album, María’s trance-inducing vocals transport you to a place of solitude and exploration. Submarine was released to wide critical praise and debuted at #17 on the Billboard Top 200. Hit single “No One Noticed” marks the band’s highest charting Billboard Hot 100 single, reaching #22 with 34 consecutive weeks and counting. Earlier this year, The Marías had six songs on the Spotify Global 200 Chart; “No One Noticed”, “Ojos Tristes”, “Sienna”, “Heavy”, and brand-new singles “Back to Me” and “Nobody New”.

María Zardoya, recognized by TIME magazine on their Latino Leaders 2024 list, has become a style icon, known for her vintage-inspired fashion and unique artistic vision. Through her work with The Marías, she has contributed to the rise of Latinx artists in indie music, blending cultural influences in a way that is both fresh and authentic.
