The Slavonic Dances by Antonín Dvořák are among the greatest treasures of piano music for four hands. With them, their composer, whose fame had until then been limited to his place of activity in Prague, suddenly experienced his breakthrough onto the international music market. The Swiss piano duo Adrienne Soóst & Ivo Haag play these delightful works with virtuosity and a great sense of the composer's Bohemian musicianship.
Along with the 9th Symphony, the Slavonic Dances are probably Dvořák's most popular work to this day. Playing sovereignly with an ingeniously invented folklorism, they represent his very own musical personal style. Although the composer himself created an orchestral arrangement for all the pieces, the technically immensely demanding piano version remains the unsurpassable original. One can even claim that the dances sound infinitely more colourful in this purest of all versions than any instrumental arrangement - a true stroke of luck for the piano-playing world of upmarket salon and house music!
