Biography Dresdner Residence Orchestra & Igor Malinovsky

Igor Malinovsky
received his first violin lessons, as a six-year-old, from Vladimir Milstein in Yekaterinburg. His studies led him to work with Dora Schwarzberg, Gerald Schulz and Zakhar Bron at the music conservatories in Vienna, Cologne and Zurich. At the age of 24, he became the concertmaster of the Bavarian State Orchestra in Munich.

In 2005, he took up the same post at the Komische Oper Berlin as well as in the Orquestra de la Comunitat Valenciana in Valencia. He has already worked with renowned conductors such as Zubin Mehta, Kirill Petrenko and Lorin Maazel. As a soloist, he toured throughout Europe, Asia and South America and performed at the Zagreb and Moscow philharmonic, the Gasteig in Munich, the Wiener Musikverein and the Konzerthaus in Vienna, among others.

Igor Malinovsky is the prizewinner of eight international competitions, including the International Henryk Wieniawski Violin Competition (Lublin, Poland), the Menuhin Competition (Folkstone, England), the International Fritz Kreisler Competition and the Pablo Sarasate International Violin Competition.

In 2009, Igor Malinovsky was appointed Professor for Violin at the Dresden University of Music Carl Maria von Weber and guest professor at the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya in Barcelona. Last but not least, in April 2013, he founded the DRESDNER RESIDENZ ORCHESTER with young musicians from all over the world and has since been delighting audiences in the acoustically vibrant halls of the Dresdner Zwinger and on tour.

Igor Malinovsky plays on a violin by Giovanni Francesco Pressenda (1777–1854) from the year 1826.

Dresdner Residence Orchestra
Since the time of kings holding celebrations in the Dresdner Residenz, music has played an important role in the Zwinger, both outside and inside in the many wonderful halls. For hundreds of years, the best orchestras and the most distinguished musicians from around the world have performed there. Following in this tradition, the DRESDNER RESIDENZ ORCHESTER presents the most beautiful classical music at the highest level of perfection.

Founded at the beginning of 2013, the young ensemble can already look back on over 500 concerts. In its small formation, the ensemble brings its own arrangements and interpretations of large works to the stage. Musicians from all over the world celebrate their accomplishments and dedicate themselves to a perfect collaboration. Unlike a typical orchestra, it is not directed by a conductor.

The soloist and conservatory professor Igor Malinovsky leads his orchestra after the Viennese tradition as a standing violinist. This combination promises a special musical experience. The founder incorporates his international experience, which he gained as concertmaster in the best orchestras in Europe, in his work with the young soloists. This creates the ensemble’s charm, which has inspired its guests not only in Dresden, but also in the Berlin Philharmonic and the Munich Residenz with charisma and professionalism.
