Info for Choirs to Heaven

This album is our biggest work until now and contains 11 tracks that we have worked on for almost 3 years. It's the essence of our work and we can't wait for you to hear it.

We have all felt it this year: the distress, helplessness and tumultuousness of isolation. And one act that have perfectly encapsulated this feeling in a cathartic yet simmering new track is Berlin-based duo Lea Porcelain – comprised of producer Julien Bracht and singer Markus Nikolaus.

An atmospheric olio of mixture of post-punk, indie and garage rock, “Choirs To Heaven” pulsates with a melancholic melody, grungy guitar riffs and warped synths.

And the cinematic visuals are a post-apocalyptic narrative, exploring the feelings of boredom, listlessness, anger, sadness – and sometimes – fleeting beauty, of the current situation.

“Me and the band have been friends for a long time now,” explains the video’s director Peter Kaaden. “During Corona, we were all feeling so isolated. We were all listening to their new songs and we had the idea of putting all these feelings we had into a music video. Choirs to Heaven became the soundtrack to my isolation to be honest… the song and lyrics both fit the situation and mood perfectly. We also luckily had the chance to work with the perfect crew. The location was Berlin’s infamous Funkhaus – and it was such a blessing. I don’t think anybody ever (not even Hollywood!) was allowed to use all these rooms for just one video… and the real star for me was Lera. I really don’t think I have to say a lot about why she was more than a perfect fit for this.”

Lea Porcelain

Lea Porcelain
Berlin-based post-punk duo Lea Porcelain, made up of producer Julien Bracht and singer Markus Nikolaus, are one of the most exciting and refreshing bands to come out of the German capital. Having originally met at a nightclub in Frankfurt where Bracht was playing, the pair’s evergreen relationship and understanding is sinuous with their musical output over the years. From 2016’s ‘Out Is In’ EP to last year’s magnificent debut full-length ‘HYMNS TO THE NIGHT’, Lea Porcelain’s music couples poignant songwriting with lush, expansive soundscapes that invigorate and awake feelings with ease.

That’s exactly the case with ‘Pool Song’, the wonderful new single which the band have performed as part of their COLORS show. Taken from their forthcoming sophomore album, the single serves as the follow up to previous cuts like ‘Sink Into the Night’ and ‘Future Hurry Slow’ and features Nikolaus’ melancholic and brusque tones weaving their way through the synth-led soundscape penned by Bract. Dive into ‘Pool Song’ here and be sure to keep an eye out for more from Lea Porcelain.
