Blue Note Records new release Shift, the assured label debut from saxophonist and composer Logan Richardson. For the momentous occasion Richardson assembled an impressive band of musical visionaries including guitarist Pat Metheny, pianist Jason Moran, bassist Harish Raghavan, and drummer Nasheet Waits.
Born in Kansas City but currently based in Paris, Richardson emerges as an important new voice in improvised music on Shift. The album is a set of 10 affecting Richardson original tunes and one unexpected Bruno Mars cover song (“Locked Out Of Heaven”) that finds the quintet coalescing into a sympatico unit that demonstrates a deep showing of love, respect, and comradery.

wuchs in Kansas City, Missouri auf, zog mit 19 Jahren nach Boston und studierte bei Billy Pierce an dem renommierten Berklee College of Music, ging aber bereits nach dem zweiten Studienjahr nach Manhattan, wo er, ausgestattet mit einem Vollstipendium, für zehn Jahre leben und arbeiten sollte. Hier zog es ihn in die Clubszene und in die Studios - Logan performte in zahlreichen Bands und tourte u. a. mit Nasheet Waits, Stefon Harris, Greg Tardy, Joe Chambers, Billy Hart, Jason Moran, Butch Morris, NEXT Collective, Michelle Rosewoman oder Gerald Clayton. Er veröffentlichte seine ersten Alben "Cerebral Flow" und "Ethos".
2009 dann schwirrte Logan bereits seine Idealbesetzung für ein Studioprojekt namens SHIFT im Kopf herum und er kontaktierte Pat Metheny, den Pianisten Jason Moran, Harish Raghavan am Bass und den Schlagzeuger Nasheet Waits. Alle waren sofort einverstanden, aber zur endgültigen Realisierung von SHIFT brauchte es seine Zeit. Nun aber erscheint das Album auf dem legendären Label 'Blue Note' - ein starkes Manifest, fast Geschichten erzählendes Werk, dynamisch und vielschichtig.
