Iron & Wine liefern nach ihrem 2018 für den Grammy nominierten Album »Beast Epic« die Songkollektion »Weed Garden«, an der sie vor drei Jahren zu arbeiten begannen.
Die 6-Track-EP enthält Songs, die Teil der Songwritingphase von »Beast Epic« waren, doch unabgeschlossen blieben. Für den Hauptsongwriter Sam Beam waren sie Teil eines längeren Narrativs, für welches ihm jedoch die Zeit fehlte, es rechtzeitig für »Beast Epic« zu verdichten. »Weed Garden« enthält außerdem den von Fans geschätzten Song »Waves of Galveston«. Während einer längeren Tour im letzten Herbst nahmen die letzten Teile des Materials Gestalt an und ein Gefühl von Dringlichkeit stellte sich ein, diese Gebilde abzuschließen. Sie aufzulösen. Sie zu komplettieren.
Im Januar setzte sich Beam mit seiner Band im The Loft-Studio in Chicago hin, um diese sechs Songs festzuhalten. Nicht mehr, nicht weniger. »Weed Garden« reiht sich in bester Gesellschaft mit den vorangegangenen Iron & Wine EPs – »The Sea and Rhythm«, »Woman King«, »In the Reins« – ein und das ist in der aktuellen Welt der kurzen Aufmerksamkeitsspanne vielleicht gar keine schlechte Sache.

Sam Beam
is a singer-songwriter who has been creating music as Iron & Wine for over a decade. Through the course of five albums, numerous EPs and singles, and the initial volumes of an Archive Series - Iron & Wine has captured the emotion and imagination of listeners with distinctly cinematic songs. Iron & Wine is currently celebrating the first two installments of the 'Archive Series' on Sam’s own label, Black Cricket Recording Co. Both releases tap into work created before Sam was Iron & Wine, when he was making music only to be heard by his family. Songs from these same home recording sessions were used for Iron & Wine’s debut, ‘The Creek Drank The Cradle.’
