Info for Avalanche

Anton Davidyants released not so much his debut album on the Jazzist label, but rather a multimedia self-portrait. A self-portrait-happening, strange as it may sound for music arranged in a strict concept: "Avalanche" is a six-part suite, specially written for jazz trio and chamber orchestra. It is a self-portrait-paradox, at the same time photographically precise and accentuated by something that is invisible to the naked eye. This work is so impregnated with meanings that to separate them from each other would be not on the level of usual review but on the level of musicology dissertation. The album not only makes you want to listen to it, but also to take it apart in different light, finding more and more new screws to tighten the construction.

Anton Davidyants
is one of the most prominent bass players in Russia, performing with the top jazz and fusion bands in the country and beyond. His style combines an incredible creative power with a peerless technical level.

If some people are child prodigies, Anton came to his instrument later in his teens. After reluctantly enrolling in the Frederic Chopin college on piano, the 15-year-old discovered the bass guitar. From this moment on, the instrument was all Anton could think of. Dropping out of college after only one semester, he started practicing for most of his waking hours with a passion bordering on fanaticism. This led him to secure the only scholarship at the College of Music, only 3 months after his first encounter with the instrument. His progress from then on was lightning fast.

In little over a year, he played with many leading Russian musicians and bands and also began to work with international artists such as Eric Marienthal, Saskia Laroo, Gregory Porter, Damien Schmitt, Virgil Donati, Alex Hutchings, Martin Miller and Nadishana.

Davidyants started playing with his own band, Impact Fuze, in 2010. It featured Russia’s most famous guitar prodigy Feodor Dosumov and French drummer Damien Schmitt, known for his associations with Jean-Luc Ponty, Bireli Lagrène and bassist Alain Caron. Just a few years since he first picked up the bass, this bass virtuoso is on a stellar rise to international recognition as he collaborates more and more with the most accomplished musicians on the planet.
