Brackman Trio
“Our friendship is the foundation of our collaboration. We are curious about each other’s ideas, have respect for one another, and give each other the space to express our musical individuality. This mutual trust paves the way for both musical freedom and unity.”
Three unique musical personalities with a shared vision: this is the Brackman Trio. Violinist Tim Brackman, cellist Kalle de Bie, and pianist Rik Kuppen found common ground in their mutual interest in the music behind the notes. Taking the time together to delve into the score, immerse themselves in the composer’s intentions, and interpret musical directions appropriately – though each may have their own perspective, all ideas converge during rehearsals. For them, the stage is the ultimate place to explore their shared musical freedom and be present in the moment.
Tim, Kalle, and Rik have all made names for themselves, both as chamber musicians and soloists. All three have won prizes at national competitions such as Dutch Classical Talent, Cellobiënnale, Netherlands Violin Competition Oskar Back, and the Young Pianist Foundation. In the Brackman Trio, they have combined their strengths.
The Brackman Trio believes that the piano trio as an ensemble deserves more recognition. They immerse themselves in the well-known piano trio repertoire by composers such as Beethoven, Haydn, and Brahms, but also see it as their mission to unearth lesser-known gems within this genre, like the piano trios of Nikolai Roslavets, Julius Röntgen, and Mel Bonis. They have collaborated with composers like Willem Jeths and Ramin Amin Tafreshi and frequently explore expanded formations including voice or viola.
Founded in 2009, the Brackman Trio has been performing in its current fixed lineup since 2020. They have played on stages such as De Doelen, TivoliVredenburg, and Muziekgebouw aan ‘t IJ, and have appeared on live broadcasts on NPO Klassiek. They are welcomed guest musicians at chamber music series and festivals such as the International Chamber Music Festival Utrecht and the Chamber Music Festival Eibergen.
During their studies, they were coached by members of the Osiris Trio and the Van Baerle Trio. Subsequently, the trio found inspiration with Eberhard Feltz, Konstantin Heidrich, and Reinhard Latzko.
“Tim Brackman is not only a very gifted violinist, but also a gifted storyteller. Rik Kuppen played the solo piano part transparently and with a beautiful touch, Kalle de Bie impressed with expressive playing.”
