Info zu The Road To Ithaca

Following his first eponymous record which proved to be one of the 2012 best-sellers in France and Europe, Shai Maestro offers us a series of new compositions illustrating a universe that is among the richest and the most exciting. This record is an in-depth work where emotion remains the essential transducer of all the pieces it contains.

Surrounded by and tightly linked to Jorge Roeder and Ziv Ravitz, Shai Maestro and his trio reveal themselves, with every concert, as one of the most astonishing and generous trios on stage, associating an ever-increasing audience in the expectation of a sheer moment of shared happiness. Since 2012, this formation has given over a hundred concerts and played in various festivals such as Nice, Marciac, La Villette... and been to more than 25 countries during the last months.

'The Road to Ithaca, the title of my new album, refers to a poem (reproduced in the libretto) by Constantin Cavafy, a Greek author, who was inspired by Homer's The Odyssey. After the Trojan War, Ulysses came back to Ithaca and saved his wife Penelope and his son Telemachus from the suitors, by being the only one able to draw the bow he had left in his country a decade before. During his journey, he saw Ithaca many times from the deck of his ship, but every time, as he got closer to it, Ithaca disappeared. Cavafy retrospectively advised Ulysses to wish for his journey to be long, and not to rush to get back to Ithaca - his 'goal'. (Shai Maestro)
