How do we make sense of our time on Earth? It s a universal question, one at the very heart of human existence. A single lifetime contains both joy and sadness, darkness and light. In our attempts to reconcile these opposites, we are all led to look for meaning somewhere: perhaps in nature, perhaps in religion. This quest has inspired writers, thinker and composers for millennia, all seeking and sometimes finding a glimpse of the sublime. From sacred music to pastoral, folk and spiritual repertoire Apollo5 explores the human journey through birth, love, struggle, the end of life and reflection. The programme ranges from the profound simplicity of some of the earliest known polyphonic writing, through to contemporary commissions and arrangements written especially for the group, taking in masterpieces of the Renaissance and Romantic eras along the way.
