Soba, das aus dem Sänger und Gitarristen Moussa Koita, dem Mundharmonikaspieler Vincent Bucher und dem Schlagzeuger Émile Biayenda besteht, knüpft an die Verbindungen zwischen dem Mandingo-Chanson und dem Mississippi-Blues an. Das Trio erkundet mit seinem rustikalen und hellen Afro-Blues die Ecken der menschlichen Seele.

Moussa Koita, Sänger und Multiinstrumentalist aus Burkina Faso, und Vincent Bucher, Mundharmonikaspieler aus Paris, haben das französische Kollektiv Soba Blues gegründet, ausgehend von der Formel Gitarre und Mundharmonika, die dem ländlichen afroamerikanischen Blues so lieb ist.

Vincent und Émile sind seit langem Freunde und Partner, sie haben in Europa und Afrika zusammen mit Tao Ravao oder auch manchmal mit den Trommeln von Brazza getourt. Als das Soba-Duo aus Moussa und Vincent entstand, hatte Moussa an Émile gedacht, und das Schicksal nahm den Rest in die Hand.

Aus dem Duo wurde ein Trio! Die Musik von Soba Blues besteht aus Originalsongs, die sowohl zeitgenössische als auch traditionelle Themen aufgreifen. Sie verbindet den Blues des tiefen Südens mit der Musik der Griots und Gitarrentroubadoure, die seit Jahrzehnten den afrikanischen Kontinent durchqueren. Soba Blues spielt eine Musik, die die Menschen direkt im Herzen berührt.

Moussa Koita
is a multi-talented musician, singer, songwriter, composer and arranger from Burkina Faso. Born into a griot family in 1983, he began performing at an early age. His musician father Harouna Koita was a member of the famous group Farafina, and his mother Téné Sanou is a singer in traditional African ceremonies. One of his first mentors was the late Victor Démé, who taught him to play guitar. He has also collaborated with Sam Mangwana, Abou Diarra, Boubacar Traoré and many other well-known figures on the West African music scene. Moussa Koita has lived in France for the past 15 years.

"Aminata," featured on "African Acoustic," addresses the fears and challenges that come with the practice of arranged marriages. "Aminata, ho / It is said everywhere that the date of your marriage is close / One day I came back from my walk / I came to find a big crowd at our house / They were all happy and impatient / I'm so scared of arranged marriages / Aminata, she is my wife."

The "African Celebration" track "Ouaga-Bobo," is about Koita's love and homesickness for his country, which brings him a sense of familiarity, hospitality, joy and brotherhood that nowhere else in the world compares to. "I've traveled all over the world," sings Koita, "I've discovered things / I've visited many places / I haven't seen a place like you yet." The song's vibrant video clip was shot in his hometown Bobo-Dioulasso, the country's second-largest city, and in Ouagadougou, the bustling capital of Burkina Faso.
